At what point in the process should I contact you about typography and design? You can contact me whenever you like! But we will only be able to begin work when your book is finished and you have your cover at. The book being complete ensures that we get an accurate cover template, which is vital to everything lining up correctly!
-
What will I need to have ready for exterior formatting? Here is everything I will want you to send to begin work on your cover! Inspiration: Optional, but very helpful—any cover examples or visual styles you like. Cover Art: The final artwork (PSD file preferred, but JPG, PNG, or PDF will work fine). Templates: Cover templates from your chosen distributors (eg Amazon, Ingram Spark, etc.) Cover Text Info: Front: Title, your name, any series info ("Book 1"), promotional quotes, etc. Spine: Series info, if applicable (such as Book 1). Back: Any decorative text you’d like (taglines, etc.) Book blurb Any images you'd like included (if applicable) Credit line for cover design and art (if desired)

What exactly is a cover template?A cover template is essentially a guide for whoever is formatting the exterior of your book- - it shows where the spine lines up, where the edges will be cut, and the bleed areas. It is essential for formatting the cover of your book, and ensures that everything is lined up properly. Here is an example of what one from KDP looks like!
-
How do I find my cover template? It depends on the distributor you are using! Honestly, just typing in " [distributor name] cover template" into your search engine will likely lead you to where you need to go 🤣

I’m not really sure what I’m doing and I’m scared to reach out/don't’ know if you’re the right person to come to for what I needThat's totally okay, and to be expected!! Publishing is a wild realm and there are SO many steps to go through and understand -- it honestly would be weird if you did know exactly what was going on. I am here to help! If you're unsure of what you need to be doing/if it's the right time to contact me/are confused about what I even do/etc. please feel free to reach out via email and I'll do my very best to help :)
-
How many revisions do you offer?I run my business model a little differently, and don't work off completed work + revisions. Instead, I enjoy working closely with my clients every step of the way, and getting approval for each stage-- so the need for revisions at the end of it is incredibly unlikely as the client as approved it along the way!
-
I have an idea for something, but I'm not sure if you do it?I love unique ideas and projects, please feel free to send me an email to discuss! I promise I don't bite ;D
-
Do you use AI in any stage of your process? No! I am against the use of generative AI in any stage of the creative process, including ideas. I will never knowingly utilize AI for any of my stock, reference images, or work.
-
What is your turnaround time?It depends on my schedule, as well as how quickly we are able to communicate, since I work based on client preference/feedback (and of course, the specific project). I've done them within a couple of days to a week, while some projects have taken up to a month or more. I am always cognizant of deadlines -- I know how important they are in the publishing world! And always feel free to reach out and check in about the status of a project.

What's the deal with licensing? Any restrictions?Everything is laid out the contract I will send to you, but here is a general summary of licensing/copyright information and usage! Copyright & Ownership As the designer, I retain full copyright over the layout, typography, and design work or any illustrations I create. That said, you’re granted exclusive commercial rights to use the final files to publish, distribute, and sell your book—both digitally and in print, with unlimited copies. - An important note: I do require an attribution (either on the cover or the copyright page) crediting me as the designer. If you need wording for this, I’m happy to provide it! Changes & Alterations You’re free to use the final files, but please don’t alter or remix the design (e.g., stretching or creating spin-offs) without my permission. If you need a resized version for another format (like an audiobook), I can handle that or approve it in writing. If a Traditional Publisher Gets Involved If a publisher acquires your novel and would like to use the typography/design, I just ask that you direct them to me for a separate licensing agreement. This helps ensure the design is used fairly and professionally. Fonts & Assets I use only commercially licensed or open-source fonts and design assets—so you're covered for legal use. File Delivery You’ll receive final files (e.g., print-ready PDF, .jpg, etc.) formatted to meet your publishing needs. If you’d like the editable source files (like Photoshop), I can prep those as well—just let me know, as there may be an added fee to organize and deliver them properly. Portfolio Use I reserve the right to showcase the final design in my professional portfolio (website, social media, etc.), but it will never be resold or reused for another client.
-
Do you use free fonts or paid fonts?I use a mix! I’ll often check out free fonts to see if there are any interesting ones, but the fonts I use most often are ones that I license/pay for. I source through sites such as Creative Fabrica, Creative Market, Adobe Fonts, and Deeezy.

Amphi? How do you pronounce that?Am-fee!
-
What does your name mean?My name, Amphi, is short for Amphispiza. Amphispiza is the genus name for the black throated sparrow. Sparrows are very meaningful to me, and a new type of sparrow seems to come into my life at pivotal times... thus, I have 'eras of sparrows'. The black throated sparrow was during a time when I first began to explore art again more seriously, and so I took on the name to fuel my spirit :)
-
How did you get into this line of work?I've been playing around with typography design and photoshohp since I was young, originally stemming from creating stylized character artwork for my writing sites. Those skills translated well into general design and specifically typography, and I was able to tackle my first typography project for a friend who was self-publishing her novel. It was such a delight that I decided to delve head-first into the realm!
-
How long have you been doing typography/book covers?Officially? It's been since 2023! Unofficially, since forever :'D
-
What genre do you prefer to work with?I don’t have a particular preference, but most of my work has been with cozy fantasy, romantasy, and fantasy!
-
Wait, you do art outside of book things?Yes! Working on book covers/decorations is just one of my many passions. I also enjoy working on traditional artwork with various different mediums including oils, acrylic, watercolor, digital, and clay. I typically enjoy creating animal paintings, but also love landscapes and abstracts. Basically, I love it all!
-
I noticed you don't have people on you covers/in your illustrations? Do you not draw people?I don't really, sorry! I am far more comfortable with creatures, environments, plants, and designs :)
